Job summary

Winanga-li ACFC is seeking a Family Learning and Wellbeing Worker to support Aboriginal children and families across Tamworth, Gunnedah and Narrabri. The role blends family learning, wellbeing support, playgroups, home-learning activities and transition-to-school programs.

The successful applicant will collaborate with families, early learning services, schools and community partners to foster culturally safe learning environments and connections, with travel between sites.

Qualifications

• Experience working with Aboriginal children, families and communities.
• Experience in early childhood, family support, education, playgroups or a related field.
• Understanding of child development and school readiness.
• Ability to build respectful relationships with families and community.
• Understanding of culturally safe and strengths-based practice.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to develop engaging activities for children and families.
• Ability and willingness to travel between Tamworth, Gunnedah and Narrabri.
• Current Working With Children Check.
• National Criminal Record Check.
• Experience with AFaT, HIPPY or similar home-learning programs.
• Experience supporting transition-to-school programs.
• Experience developing early learning resources.

Responsibilities

• Developing activities focused on child development, healthy living, parenting skills and family wellbeing.
• Supporting parents and carers as their child’s first teacher.
• Developing home-learning activities and resources.
• Supporting children and families preparing for school.
• Working with early learning services, schools and community organisations.
• Supporting Gamilaraay Language and cultural activities alongside the Language Team.
• Building strong relationships with Aboriginal families and community.
• Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reporting requirements.
