Job summary

Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service is seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker to collaboratively deliver culturally appropriate mental health support within their community and CHQ catchment. Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing supervision, mentoring and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, organizing training on cultural competence and mental health best practices.

• Join committees and working groups to develop and implement culturally competent policies and initiatives.
• Coordinate social and emotional wellbeing assessments and interventions.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to advocate for holistic care and maintain client records.

Job description

The role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker is to collaboratively deliver culturally appropriate mental health support within their community and HHS catchment to address the unique social and emotional wellbeing needs arising from historical trauma, cultural disconnection and social determinants of health.

Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

This frontline support role provides essential support enabling the development and delivery of frontline services, programs and outcomes.

About The Role

In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values.

• Provide ongoing supervision, mentoring and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, ensuring they are equipped to deliver culturally appropriate care, through organising training sessions focused on cultural competence, mental health best practices and professional development.
• Monitors and evaluates the quality of mental health services provided, to meet established standards and guidelines.
• Join various committees and working groups focused on mental health service delivery and collaborate with other members to develop and implement policies and initiatives that promote culturally competent care.
• Integrates and coordinates culturally sensitive social and emotional wellbeing assessments and intervention.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, advocating for the wellbeing of consumers ensuring co-ordinated holistic care (appointments, home visits, safety plans, maintaining client records and social and emotional wellbeing interventions).
• Collaboratively engage and support complex consumers to navigate the mental health system, through advocating and understanding their complex needs and concerns.
