Job summary

Compas Pty Ltd seeks a Lead Network Security Engineer to support operation, maintenance and security uplift of critical network infrastructure within a complex Australian Government environment in Canberra.

The role requires securing physical and virtual networks, assessing security architectures and strengthening defences against advanced cyber threats. NV1 clearance is required; 12-month contract with potential extensions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' demonstrated experience in a cyber security role.
• Experience configuring and securing network infrastructure, including firewalls, servers and routers.
• Strong understanding of network security architectures, defence-in-depth strategies and security controls.

Lead Network Security Engineer | Critical Infrastructure & Cyber Security

Support the operation, maintenance and security uplift of critical network infrastructure within a complex Australian Government environment. This senior-level opportunity involves securing physical and virtual networks, assessing security architectures and strengthening defences against advanced cyber threats. Three positions are available, with an initial 12-month contract and potential extensions.

Location: ACT
Work Arrangement: Onsite (flexible arrangements may be negotiated subject to operational requirements)
Contract Duration: 12 months, with possible 2 x 12-month extensions
Security Clearance Requirement:NV1
Closing Date: 16 November 2026

Essential Tasks

• Plan, implement, operate and maintain critical network infrastructure across physical and virtual environments.
• Assess network security architectures, device configurations and existing controls to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
• Apply security frameworks and defence-in-depth principles to strengthen network infrastructure against advanced cyber threats.
• Evaluate network systems, test security controls and provide technical recommendations to improve network resilience and protection.

Key Criteria

• Minimum 5 years' demonstrated experience in a cyber security role, with strong network security engineering capabilities.
• Proven experience configuring and securing network infrastructure, including firewalls, servers, routers and network communications.
• Strong understanding of network security architectures, defence-in-depth strategies, security controls and network device hardening.
• Ability to assess complex network environments, identify security weaknesses and recommend improvements to established network security practices.

Additional Requirement

Candidates must be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA), including a psychological assessment, before commencement.
