Job summary

Zinfra is offering an Apprenticeship for a Gas Technician in Canberra. This three-year program combines on‑the‑job experience at the Hume depot with a Certificate III in Gas Supply Industry Operations, including training blocks in Greystanes, NSW.

You’ll rotate through field work across the ACT, learn safety culture, repair and maintenance tasks on gas networks, and build skills under qualified professionals while supporting energy infrastructure progress.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintenance of high, medium and low pressure gas networks.

  • Repair and maintenance of pipeline coatings, valves and mechanical equipment.
  • Liaison with landholders and public authorities.
  • Promote and drive a safety culture.
  • A wide variety of duties including mechanical activities, weed control, erosion control, documentation and records maintenance.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Gas Technician to undertake a Certificate III in Gas Supply Industry Operations over a three-year program which will enable you to obtain industry skills and knowledge under the supervision of qualified and experienced professionals, while also attending our registered training provider to complete your certification.

The apprenticeship will be based at our Hume depot; however, the majority of your time will be spent working in the field across the ACT. Throughout the apprenticeship, the successful candidate will also be required to travel to our Greystanes depot in Western Sydney to complete scheduled training blocks.

During the program, you will be a valued member of our team and will participate in workplace and worksite rotations across the ACT, experiencing a variety of work environments within the gas supply industry which will enhance your skills and career development opportunities.

What We’re Looking For

This is an exciting time for our industry and we would love to be able to share this journey with someone who is committed and eager to learn. When you complete the program successfully, you will have completed all competencies for a Certificate III in Gas Supply Industry and will submit ongoing workplace evidence addressing the elements within the Gas Operations qualification.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • An enjoyment of working in the outdoors and a strong focus on safety
  • Current drivers licence, with a minimum Red P Plate during your 1st Year Apprenticeship (Minimum Green P Plate by the end of your 2nd Year Apprenticeship)
  • A good positive attitude and a willingness to work as a team will no doubt see you succeed in your new role
