The Position:

This is an incredible opportunity to work as an Emergency Medicine Registrar in Canberra’s largest facility.

• Over 89,000 presentations annually with high acuity and an admission rate of more than 35%
• Approximately 20% of paediatric presentations
• A team of over 40 FACEMs, 3 Senior Registrars, 30 Registrars, and other junior medical staff

The Location:

Canberra is an ideal destination to start a new chapter or nurture a family. The city offers accessible green spaces, a secure environment, and excellent education. Enjoy a balanced lifestyle with short commutes, outdoor activities, and vibrant suburban centers with cafes, shops, and services. Nearby attractions include the Brindabella mountains, Sydney (3-hour drive), Snowy Mountains, and NSW south coast beaches. Over 26% of locals are from overseas, making it welcoming for IMGs. The National Multicultural Festival is a highlight.

The Facility:

A large hospital with over 650 beds, serving a population of over 550,000. It is the main teaching hospital for the Australian National University and offers a wide range of services including acute, outpatient, women’s and children’s health, paediatrics, oncology, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, infectious diseases, neonatology, palliative care, rehabilitation, respiratory, pain management, and various surgical specialties.

Eligibility:

  • General, Provisional, or Limited registration with AHPRA or eligibility to obtain it
  • Completed AMC MCQ (Part 1) or both AMC 1 & 2 (clinical exam)
  • Eligible via the Competent Authority Pathway (training in UK, USA, NZ, Canada, or Ireland)
  • Assessable by ACEM as partially or substantially comparable
  • Interested in foreign training via the Short Term Training (STT) pathway
  • Experience working as an Emergency Medicine Registrar
