Sandgate Golf Club Inc. in Shorncliffe, QLD, offers an apprenticeship for greenkeeping with hands-on training across golf course maintenance and presentation under the Course Superintendent.
You will build practical skills to pursue a career as a qualified Greenkeeper. The program includes a minimum three-year Certificate III in Parks and Gardens with off-the-job training at Grovely TAFE, starting with 38 hours per week and early-morning seasonal shifts.
Your apprenticeship will provide hands-on training and experience across all aspects of golf course maintenance and presentation. Reporting to the Course Superintendent, you will work alongside an experienced team while developing the practical skills and knowledge required to build a career as a qualified Greenkeeper.
You will commence a minimum three-year Certificate III in Parks and Gardens apprenticeship, with off-the-job training at Grovely TAFE.
Key responsibilities
Assist with the day-to-day maintenance and presentation of the golf course
Learn to operate and safely maintain turf maintenance machinery and equipment
Assist with mowing and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways and surrounds
Develop skills in turf care, irrigation, weed management and general horticultural practices
Assist with planting, gardening and course improvement projects
Learn and follow workplace health and safety procedures
Work as part of the greenkeeping team to maintain a high standard of course presentation

Senior school certificate or evidence of post-school study/traineeship
A genuine interest in developing a career in greenkeeping, horticulture or turf management
A desire to learn and grow in a new role
Strong work ethic and reliable attitude
Ability to work well as part of a team
Willingness to work outdoors and undertake physical, hands-on work
Good attention to detail and pride in your work

TAFE Requirements
As part of the apprenticeship enrolment process, you will be invited to complete a Skills Check through TAFE Queensland. The recommended benchmark levels for this course are Level 3 in English, Level 3 in Maths and Level 2 in Digital Technology. Completion of the Skills Check is required prior to commencing the TAFE component of the apprenticeship.
