Your responsibilities

Excellent research needs state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and innovative digital services. With a team of about 50 experts, we will redesign the institute's digital landscape over the next few years and implement an ambitious digital transformation programme to facilitate the Institute's rapid growth. As part of our IT & Digital Transformation strategy, we are planning to migrate parts of our Windows-based infrastructure to the cloud and introduce Microsoft 365.

As part of our core IT infrastructure team, you will have a leading role in designing, implementing, and operating our Windows-based systems. Your responsibilities in our fast-changing environment include :

• Designing, planning, implementing, maintaining, and operating Windows-based systems
• Configuring and maintaining services such as Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and MS SQL Server
• Planning, implementing, and optimising server automation, e.g., for updates and configuration management
• Implementing security features and hardening measures, aligned with our CISO and the cybersecurity team
• Providing 2nd and 3rd-level support to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents
• Documenting the system architecture, configuration of the servers and applications as well as providing end-user documentation

Your profile

• Several years of experience as Windows system administrator, ideally with servers on-premises, Azure-based workloads, and Microsoft 365
• Profound knowledge of Windows server operating systems and Active Directory
• Experience with configuring and operating Azure, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365
• Experience with VMware, container technologies, and orchestration is a plus
• Knowledge of typical network technologies including TCP / IP, DHCP, DNS, routing, and switching
• Experience with automation tools and scripting languages like PowerShell
• General knowledge of state-of-the-art server architecture, operating models, and security features
• Used to work with IT service management and IT security frameworks (ITIL, ISO 27001, )
• Working language is English, good working knowledge in German is an advantage
