Google Austria is seeking a Data Center Water Treatment Technician to operate and support mechanical and HVAC systems essential to our world‑class data centers. You will monitor pumps, chillers, water treatment, and BMS alarms, reading schematics and assisting senior technicians to keep systems safe and efficient.

We value hands‑on experience in water treatment, mechanical maintenance, and the ability to work shifts.

Qualifikationen

• Associate degree or certified training in a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in water treatment/chemical analysis or related environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and use PPE per safety guidelines.
• Willingness to work non-standard hours and shifts.

• Provide analysis of chemical testing data and implement changes to keep the plant safe.
• Monitor cooling, makeup, and closed cooling water systems.
• Inspect and repair data center systems and perform planned PM tasks.
• Respond to BMS alarms and HVAC-related client issues promptly.
• Ensure uptime of water pumps, treatment systems, HVAC, and control/monitoring systems.

Minimum qualifications

• Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience as a Chemical Engineer in Water Treatment Plant (WTP), chemical analysis, mechanical/cooling distribution systems, or construction/technical environments.
• Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment, the required use of safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses in accordance with safety and ergonomic guidelines and assessments.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts.

Preferred qualifications

• 2 years of experience in maintenance of mechanical/cooling distribution systems or construction/technical environments, or a related field.
• Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
• Proficiency in managing data and updating digital chemical logs.
• Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems used in a data center environment (e.g., Chillers, Air handling units, pumps and CRAC/CRAH units).
• Ability to communicate in English or German fluently to interact with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.

About the Job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Data Center Water Treatment Technician, you will ensure 24/7 reliability of our physical infrastructure. Your core duties involve operating, monitoring, and supporting Mechanical systems critical to data center performance, including: water pumps and treatment systems, chillers, HVAC and advanced control and monitoring systems. You will regularly inspect, maintain, and repair these systems. Austria: €62000 - €63500 (EUR) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Provide analysis of chemical testing data and perform changes to keep the plant safe and protected.
• Monitor all cooling systems including make up water, cooling water, and closed cooling water.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and mechanical system components, completing planned Preventative Maintenance (PM) and reactive maintenance.
• Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions, including reacting promptly to the Building Management System (BMS) alarms and responding to HVAC-related client problems.
• Manage the uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), and control/monitoring systems.
