The University of Vienna invites applications for an University assistant predoctoral in the Department of English and American Studies. You will participate in research, teaching, and administration in applied English linguistics and work toward a doctoral project within 12 months.

We seek a candidate with a Mag.phil., MEd or MA in English linguistics or related fields, strong English skills, and the ability to work well in a team.

Qualifikationen

• Sound understanding of applied English linguistics.
• Experience with or willingness to employ applied linguistic approaches.
• Willingness to develop and carry out a PhD project focusing on the social role of language in anglophone, global, multilingual or digital culture considering digital infrastructures or material practices.
• Teaching experience (desired).
• Experience of working with online and digitally enhanced learning.
• Knowledge of university processes and structures.

Your Place Of Work

The Department of English and American Studies hosts research and teaching in the areas of literary and cultural studies, as well as linguistics, ELT/TESOL and English language. The department employs more than eighty staff and presently around 2500 students are enrolled in its Bachelor, Masters, Diploma, PhD and Teacher Education programmes. You will be working in the area of applied English linguistics in the team with Professor Schneider.

Job Description

• Participation in research, administration and teaching in the area of applied English linguistics

Profile

• Mag.phil., MEd or MA degree in English linguistics or a closely related field, esp. sociolinguistics or linguistic anthropology
• High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• IT user skills
• Ability to work in a team
