Position: University Assistant (Praedoc) – 30 hours per week, 3‑year contract with the option to extend for a further year. Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics – Department of Statistics and Operations Research.

Your personal sphere of influence

The successful applicant will be admitted to the Ph.D. program and will work on the development and analysis of statistical methods for machine learning, especially high‑dimensional models and methods such as jackknife and conformal inference. You will also gain teaching experience in the Department’s Bachelor and Master programmes (teaching governed by the collective bargaining agreement).

Your future tasks

• Participate in research projects and scientific studies in the area of mathematical statistics.
• Finalize your dissertation agreement within 12–18 months.
• Work on, complete, and defend your dissertation.
• Hold courses independently within the scope of the collective bargaining agreement.
• Take on administrative tasks in research, teaching, and administration.

This is part of your personality

• Completed Master’s degree or Diploma in statistics, mathematics, or a closely related discipline (completed or pending).
• Solid background in statistics, mathematical statistics, and probability theory with promising potential for original research.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• IT proficiency: knowledge of R or a comparable statistical software package.

The employment duration is 3 years, automatically extended to 3 years if not terminated within the first 12 months. With appropriate progress, extension to a maximum of 4 years is possible.
