The Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS) at the University of Vienna conducts basic research on the structure and function of microbiomes at an internationally leading level. We are looking for a post postdoctoral researcher to support our nitrification team.
The Division of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science (DoME, https://dome.univie.ac.at/) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher. The focus will be on the design and implementation of innovative enrichment and isolation strategies working as part of the nitrification research group. Our group focuses on various aspects of nitrification, ranging from ecology of different clades, physiology of certain strains to biochemistry of specific enzymes.
The postdoctoral researcher will focus on developing and applying novel isolation methods, including high-throughput single-cell techniques, to enrich and isolate nitrifying microorganisms.Since standard isolation techniques often fail to yield novel nitrifying isolates, we are looking for a candidate with a strong background and proven experience in the cultivation, enrichment and isolation of nitrifiers from diverse habitats. Ideally, the candidate already employed highly innovative approaches to successfully enrich various ammonia- and nitrite-oxidizing microorganisms.
