Zusammenfassung

The University of Vienna invites applications for a Tenure-Track Professorship in Rapid Marine Adaptation within the Faculty of Life Sciences. We seek a scientist with an outstanding record in marine evolutionary genomics who investigates rapid evolutionary responses through field studies and/or experimental evolution in the laboratory.

Qualifikationen

• PhD (doctorate) required.
• Two years of international research experience during or after doctoral studies.
• Outstanding research achievements with strong publication and funding record.
• Gender and diversity competence.
• Experience in designing and leading research projects and securing third‑party funding.
• Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level.
• Proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and participation in university committees (to be achieved within three years).

Aufgaben

• Investigate rapid evolutionary responses such as evolutionary rescue through field studies and/or experimental evolution in the laboratory.
• Use eukaryotic marine organisms as model systems with vital roles in ecosystems.
• Collaborate with physiologists, ecologists, biochemists, systems biologists and evolutionary biologists to link genomic targets of selection to organismal phenotypes and local environmental conditions.
• Advance mechanistic understanding and predictive modeling of rapid adaptation to climate change in marine environments and inform conservation strategies across Europe.
