\The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna invites applications for a tenure‑track Professor in Migration and Citizenship Studies.
\International migration and mobility are transforming democratic politics across Europe and beyond. These issues lie at the heart of today’s political debates, influencing power dynamics and necessitating new approaches to policymaking at all levels of government.
\We are looking to hire a tenure‑track professor who is passionate about understanding the political dimensions of migration and citizenship. We welcome applications from excellent candidates researching at least one of the following aspects of migration: ethnic, cultural or religious diversity; migrants’ political participation and representation; or the role of gender and human rights in shaping migration regimes. We expect the candidate to be committed to cutting‑edge research and teaching at all levels (BA, MA and PhD).
\The successful candidate will have a strong track record in research in the field of migration and citizenship studies, evidenced by empirical work on the basis of solid methodological skills.
\The Department of Political Science is a vibrant and intellectually diverse community of scholars. Our research covers important topics such as comparative politics, politics and gender, international politics, political theory, global health, and sustainability and climate change. By embracing diversity of thought, perspective, and research methodology, we aim to further our understanding of the most pressing political issues and contribute to positive societal change in Europe and beyond. Beyond our department, scholars of migration will find many potential collaborators and peers throughout the Faculty of Social Sciences. In particular, sociology and demography deal with issues such as migrants’ access to welfare states, displacement, emigration and much more. Furthermore, the Department of Government provides an excellent environment in which to conduct research on party politics and political behaviour, including issues related to migration such as the rise of anti‑immigrant parties.
\The opportunity to obtain a permanent position and eventual promotion to full professor; the initial contract as Assistant Professor is limited to six years, after positive evaluation of a qualification agreement the contract becomes permanent as Associate Professor; Associate Professors can be promoted to Full Professor through an internal competitive procedure.
