Are you ready to shape the future of minerals tax policy in Australia? The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) is seeking a dynamic Taxation Executive to lead the development and management of our minerals tax policy. This is a senior role, reporting directly to the Chief Economist, with significant influence across government, industry, and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the MCA Standing Committee on Taxation and provide expert tax policy advice to members and the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Represent the MCA on tax-related bodies, including Australian Taxation Office committees and external groups such as the Business Coalition for Tax Reform and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
  • Deliver the annual Minerals Industry Tax Survey and the biennial MCA Taxation Conference.
  • Advocate for members with government on tax policy affecting the mining industry.
  • Build strong networks with senior tax executives in key organisations.
  • Oversee the tax portfolio budget and contribute to the operation of the MCA.
  • Develop and maintain senior‑level relationships with member companies, government officials, and industry organisations.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging taxation policy developments impacting the minerals sector.

Selection Criteria
  • Tertiary qualifications in economics or a related discipline.
  • Senior taxation management experience within industry, the ATO, or Treasury.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in public policy and five years in a tax management role.
  • Capacity to develop extensive knowledge of economic and commercial matters impacting the minerals industry.
  • Demonstrated capability in public policy development, project and team management, advocacy, communication, relationship‑building, and negotiation.
  • Political awareness and familiarity with major economic and policy issues affecting the minerals sector.
  • Exceptional writing, oratory, and negotiation skills.
