Jobbeschreibung

Would you like to become part of a dedicated team developing advanced technologies for the space industry? Lead talented engineers, drive innovation, and contribute to solutions that support critical missions around the world? Then we have the opportunity for you!

We are facing an exciting future with considerable growth and demanding changes, as we deliver advanced technologies and mission critical solutions for the defense and aerospace industry. Our systems provide security for people on land, at sea and in the air. Therefore, we are looking for a Manager for our Space R&D Team to become part of this journey and contribute to our overall purpose – securing people through advanced technology.

Your role in our team

As our new Manager, Space R&D, you will play a key role in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for developing advanced Space Power and Ground Systems solutions. You will drive the execution of product development activities across software, hardware, and systems engineering, ensuring successful delivery from concept to industrialization.

Your role will involve close collaboration with Product Managers, Architects, Project Managers, and engineering specialists to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver innovative solutions. Therefore, it is essential that you are a strong technical leader with excellent communication skills, capable of building high-performing teams and driving results in a complex, high-technology environment.

You will become part of the Terma Space R&D organization in Vienna, working within the Power & Ground Systems product and technology environment. The department brings together multidisciplinary engineering teams with expertise across software, electronics, power systems, RF technologies, FPGA, embedded systems, systems engineering, and verification.

We value close collaboration across disciplines, enabling knowledge sharing, technical innovation, and the delivery of advanced integrated hardware and software solutions.

How you will make a meaningful contribution

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and orchestrate multidisciplinary R&D activities across Terma’s Space Power & Ground Systems product portfolio, providing people leadership, technical leadership and day-to-day engineering management for teams spanning software, electronics, power, RF, SDR/DSP, FPGA, embedded systems, systems engineering, integration and verification.
  • Translate product strategy into engineering execution by working closely with Product Managers, Architects, Project Managers and engineering specialists to align requirements, architecture, software, firmware, hardware, integration, verification and industrialisation into coordinated development plans and deliverable roadmaps.
  • Drive Agile development and engineering delivery, establishing effective sprint and backlog management processes, prioritisation, dependency management, work-package planning and execution follow-up, while maintaining visibility of progress, risks, resources, technical dependencies and removing delivery blockers.
  • Lead end-to-end software, hardware and systems development, promoting software engineering best practices including architecture, requirements traceability, code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, configuration management and release processes, while coordinating electronics design, PCB development, prototyping, verification, qualification, manufacturing readiness and product industrialisation.
  • Ensure effective cross-domain integration and product execution, driving HW/SW co-development and integration across software, FPGA/firmware, DSP, RF and power electronics, and supporting engineering activities across Power SCOE/EGSE and power systems, RF ground equipment and RF-SCOE, SPECTRA/SDR and SATCOM modem technologies, test systems and associated software platforms.
  • Strengthen engineering capability and continuous improvement through competency and resource planning, recruitment, talent development, process optimisation, test automation, simulation, HW/SW integration and overall R&D efficiency, while supporting technical reviews, estimates, business cases, proposals, technology maturation, R&D investments and product roadmap development.
Bring your world class expertise into play

You are fluent in English both in writing and verbal at a professional level. German is an advantage but not a requirement. Moreover, we are also looking for a new colleague with the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Embedded Systems, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary R&D and product development organizations within complex technology environments such as Space, Aerospace, Defense, Telecommunications, or Industrial Electronics, combining people leadership with hands-on technical leadership.
  • Strong technical expertise spanning both software and hardware development, with proven experience across areas such as embedded systems, software architecture, electronics, RF, power systems, FPGA/DSP, system integration, verification and product industrialization.
  • Proven ability to assess architecture, execution, technical risk, estimates and delivery across software, embedded/FPGA/DSP, electronics, RF and power domains, while driving HW/SW co-development from concept through integration, verification and industrialization.
  • Demonstrated engineering and people leadership capabilities, including Agile/Scrum-based development, backlog prioritization, resource coordination, recruitment, competency development, stakeholder management, and building high-performing engineering teams.

You are a technically credible and hands-on engineering leader with combined people and technical leadership capabilities, who thrives in complex, multidisciplinary development environments. With deep expertise in at least one engineering discipline and broad cross-functional knowledge, you can connect software, hardware, and systems perspectives to drive effective product development.

As a leader, you are collaborative, pragmatic, and people focused. You can lead multidisciplinary teams while staying close to architecture, integration, technical decision-making, and product industrialization. You enjoy developing teams, creating clarity in complexity, and turning priorities into execution. You are comfortable balancing technology, quality, cost, and delivery while maintaining a long-term view of product architecture and innovation.

You communicate confidently across technical domains, build strong stakeholder relationships, and have the depth to challenge designs, estimates, and technical risks all connecting perspectives across disciplines. Most importantly, you are energized by leading high-performing teams and delivering innovative products in demanding, high-technology environments.

We are an international company representing world-class expertise, delivering complex and high-tech products. We value our colleagues and our meaningful contributions to securing people through advanced technology. You will also experience that we have a strong focus on your development, teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally.
