Zusammenfassung

Kraken seeks an experienced Database Engineer to scale MariaDB clusters globally, improve high-availability, and automate operational workflows. You will drive observable metrics, security practices, and scalable infrastructure with Kubernetes and IaC patterns.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, implement reliable disaster recovery, and reduce manual toil through automation, improving performance and reliability across environments.

Qualifikationen

• 5+ years of MariaDB/MySQL in production environments, including tuning, replication, and troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of high-availability patterns, distributed database behavior, and failure scenarios.
• Hands-on experience with database proxies or load-balancing layers (HAProxy, ProxySQL, MaxScale, or similar).
• Practical experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code workflows (Terraform ideal).
• Solid cloud, Linux, and networking fundamentals.
• Experience with containers and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes at scale).
• Strong security instincts around access control and upgrade processes.
• Observability expertise: monitoring, alerting, and incident readiness.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with stakeholders and documentation.

Aufgaben

• Scale and tune high-throughput MariaDB clusters to support global expansion and new product initiatives.
• Strengthen high-availability, disaster-recovery, and backup approaches through sound design and validated procedures.
• Reduce manual operational work by building automation, improving process consistency, and enabling safe database workflows.
• Improve observability and alert quality by championing metrics and reducing noise.
• Enhance database security through robust access controls and secure upgrade practices.
• Contribute to modern platform initiatives, including containerized environments and infrastructure-as-code workflows.
• Partner with service teams to drive better performance patterns and database hygiene.
• Participate in on-call rotations with a long-term focus on predictability and preventative engineering.
