Job description

As Senior Legal Counsel, you are Flinn’s central legal owner and the person every team comes to with legal questions. This is a generalist role covering a broad range of topics: customer contracts, DPAs, corporate questions, data protection, employment matters, IP and copyright, and new technology regulation. You’ll sit in the Regulatory & Quality team but work with everyone at Flinn, from the founders to Sales, Product and People.

At Flinn, Legal isn’t here to list reasons why something can’t be done. Your job is to tell hard legal boundaries apart from risks we can manage, and to help the company find practical, lawful ways forward. When something isn’t possible, we want to hear how we could do it instead.

You might negotiate a customer contract in the morning, look at the copyright side of an AI use case in the afternoon, and work on a new regulatory framework the next day. You own legal topics until they’re resolved, and you do the detailed work yourself.

Why Flinn?
  • We are building a truly exceptional culture: While many companies claim to have a great culture, we invite you to discover what truly sets ours apart. Visit the career page, speak with our team, listen to our founders’ podcast, or experience our culture first‑hand during the interview process.

  • Make a Meaningful Impact: Your work at Flinn contributes directly to solutions that improve people’s health and lives by making high-quality health products accessible for everyone.

  • Experienced, well-funded, highly professional: As well-funded startup veterans, we know how to sustain long-term business health and success, ensuring an environment for continuous personal growth.

What’s in it for you?
  • Join a fast-growing, well-funded European startup backed by experienced founders and investors.

  • Be part of a mission-driven health-tech company whose work directly improves people’s lives.

  • Play a key role in scaling Flinn’s GTM, shaping how we grow.

  • Work in a high-trust, low-ego environment with autonomy and clear ownership.

  • Work in a net-zero company where all unavoidable CO₂ emissions are compensated with carefully selected, high-quality removal certificates.

  • Receive one of the most employee-friendly equity packages, including fair vesting terms and profit-sharing opportunities.

  • Grow in a professional, high-standard environment that supports long‑term personal and career development.

Your contributions to our journey:

Your core responsibility is to own Flinn’s legal topics and help the company make fast, well-informed decisions. Concretely, you will…

  • Be the central point of contact for legal questions across Flinn and own them from the first question to a decision.

  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including customer and SaaS contracts, DPAs, NDAs, vendor and partnership agreements, and judge which deviations really matter.

  • Advise on IP and copyright, including software, third-party content and AI-generated outputs.

  • Review new product ideas, partnerships and AI use cases early, before decisions are locked in.

  • Handle questions on data protection, corporate matters, employment and other topics as they come up.

  • Keep track of legal developments relevant to Flinn and help implement new frameworks such as the EU AI Act together with the Regulatory team.

  • Decide when we need external counsel, brief them and turn their input into next steps.

  • Build the foundations of our legal function, such as templates, playbooks and processes, and standardise or automate recurring work using AI and other tools where they help.

What you need to be successful:
  • Pragmatic legal judgment: You can tell a hard legal boundary from a risk we can manage. When something isn’t possible, you come with alternatives and a recommendation.

  • Generalist strength: You’re comfortable with topics you haven’t seen before, get into them quickly and know when to bring in a specialist.

  • Hands‑on and independent: You enjoy doing the detailed work yourself and don’t wait for someone to hand you a structure.

  • Business understanding: You want to know what the company is trying to achieve before giving advice, and you adjust to how important and urgent an issue is.

  • Clear communication: You explain legal topics so non‑lawyers understand them.

  • AI affinity: You already use AI tools in your work and want to use them more.

  • High standards, low ego: You care about legal quality and precision without needing to prove yourself in every meeting.

Attributes we are looking for:
  • 5+ years of experience in business law, with the ability to own legal matters independently.

  • Fluent German (must) and professional English.

  • Hands‑on experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.

  • Good knowledge of EU law relevant to a tech company. US or international experience is a plus.

  • Expertise in IP and/or copyright law is strongly preferred, especially around software, data or AI. Employment law experience is a plus.

  • Startup or scale‑up experience is strongly preferred.

  • Experience building legal structures such as templates, playbooks or processes.

  • Experience working with external counsel.

  • MedTech or regulated‑industry experience is a plus, but regulatory expertise is not required. Our Regulatory team covers that.

At this stage of our company, we can only accept applications from people who are based in Europe with either European citizenship, an active working visa or being self‑employed and joining us as a full‑time contractor (Except for US‑based roles).

We strive to remove barriers, eliminate discrimination, and ensure equal opportunity through our transparent recruitment process. We are open to all groups of people without regard to age, color, national origin, race, religion, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, marital status or any other legally protected characteristic.
