The University of Vienna seeks a Senior Lecturer & Researcher in the Department of Geology to lead teaching and research in structural geology and tectonics.
The role includes bachelor and master courses, field instruction in mountainous terrain, and teaching administration, requiring a doctoral degree and strong German/English proficiency. Join an international team committed to high-quality education and research.
The Senior Lecturer position is based at the Department of Geology (Institut für Geology / IfG) within the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography, and Astronomy. With more than 30 academic staff and over 300 students, the IfG offers an inspiring environment for conducting excellent basic research and addressing pressing societal challenges through research and teaching.
The position is part of the Structural Geology and Tectonics research group.
The members of the research group investigate how, why, and at what rate rocks deform under tectonic influence. To analyze the response to tectonic forces, macroscopic structures such as folds, shear zones, and faults are quantitatively mapped in the field. In addition, rocks are examined using high-resolution analytical methods to understand deformation processes. The application of numerical models helps to better understand the physical processes of rock deformation.
As Senior Lecturer, your teaching responsibilities will primarily involve instructing students in general geoscientific and mathematical-geological methods such as modeling and their practical applications particularly in quantitative structural geology, tectonics, geo-energy, and mineral resources geology, as well as conducting field instruction, especially in mountainous terrain.
You will independently conduct and lead courses at the bachelor's and master's levels in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. The 20-hour-per-week work schedule includes an average teaching load of 5 semester-weekly hours of academic teaching and 3.5 semester-weekly hours of instructional teaching.
You will perform administrative tasks, particularly in the area of teaching administration.
We expect you to keep up to date with the latest scientifc developments and to engage in didactic training, especially during lecture-free periods.
