Job summary

Quantum Technology Laboratories GmbH in Vienna seeks an optical development engineer to advance micro-optical and fiber-optical assemblies for satellites. You will simulate, design, verify, and document optics, collaborating with physicists and engineers in a hands-on lab setting.

You will implement Zemax models, analyze tolerances, and propose flight-hardware improvements while contributing to interdisciplinary integration and high-performance optical systems.

Qualifications

• We seek candidates with hands-on optical development experience and strong Zemax tolerance analysis.
• Experience developing micro-optical or fiber-optical assemblies is highly valued.
• Solid understanding of polarization optics and practical skills in optical setup building and alignment.
• Ability to connect simulations with experimental results and translate them into design improvements.

Responsibilities

• Optical simulation: build and maintain Zemax models and perform tolerance analyses for components.
• Design development: advance micro-optical/fiber-optical designs for flight hardware.
• Optomechanical performance: work with mechanical/thermal engineers to assess displacements and temperature effects on optics.
• Verification: design test setups, define measurement methods and compare results with simulations.
• Laboratory work: plan, build, align, and characterize optical setups; assist prototype assembly.
• Documentation: produce design docs, simulation reports, specs and test records.
• Components and suppliers: select micro-optical and fiber-optic parts and liaise with suppliers.
• Integration: support cross-disciplinary product integration across optoelectronics, electronics, and software.
