Job summary

Quantum Technology Laboratories GmbH in Vienna seeks a QKD System Architect to lead studies for satellite-based, terrestrial, and hybrid QKD networks. You will assess architectures, perform trade-offs, and derive system requirements while engaging with customers, partners, and space agencies.

You will present results, participate in reviews, and travel as needed, contributing to an international, multidisciplinary effort at the intersection of QKD physics, engineering, and secure communications.

Qualifications

• University degree in a technical field.
• Solid understanding of QKD principles, protocols, network concepts, trust models, and practical limitations.
• Experience bridging theoretical security concepts with practical engineering constraints.
• Experience with system studies, modelling or simulation, and requirements engineering.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Perform system and network studies for satellite-based, terrestrial, and hybrid QKD networks.
• Evaluate QKD architectures, protocols, trust models, implementation options, and security implications via structured trade-offs.
• Use modelling and simulation tools to assess QKD performance, coverage, key availability, and operational constraints.
• Derive system, network, interface, and security-related requirements; contribute to architectures and integration concepts.
• Prepare technical documentation and present results in reviews and meetings.
• Engage with governmental agencies, space agencies, customers, and partners on QKD topics.

Education

University degree in physics, quantum technologies, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related technical field
