About the Opportunity

Are you experienced in driving innovation and delivering cutting‑edge technology projects? We’re looking for a dynamic Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and reporting of our diverse project portfolio in the Innovation, Science & Technology Program. Working closely with the Science & Technology Manager and a collaborative team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of innovation across the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end‑to‑end project management of science and technology initiatives, from concept to implementation and handover.
  • Develop roadmaps and business cases for emerging technologies such as AI, additive manufacturing, and assistive tech.
  • Evaluate innovation opportunities for feasibility, risk, and strategic alignment.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including industry, academia, and government.
  • Track project progress, budgets, and outcomes, ensuring value for money and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Support the evolution of S&T frameworks, governance, and knowledge management practices.
  • Contribute to broader departmental initiatives and secure external funding where applicable.
  • Mentoring, coaching and guiding others to support a growing team.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in Project Management, Innovation, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated 5 years of relative experience in project management, with experience in innovation/technology development.
  • Defence project management experience with a focus of innovation or delivery of technology into the Defence sector.
  • Skilled in applying diverse project methodologies (e.g., PMBOK, Agile, Lean Startup, HCD).
  • Sound understanding of defence maritime strategic needs, threats and opportunities, and demonstrated translation to projects.
  • Strong understanding of scientific and technological principles across domains.
  • Excellent skills in communication, stakeholder management and ability to form engaged teams to deliver outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and influence cross‑functional teams.
  • Proficient in data analysis, scheduling, tracking and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of Defence procurement and acquisition.
  • Experience working with SMEs and academia through research.

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance up to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
