Offer Description

We are looking for an excellent researcher in the field of theoretical particle physics using first-principles non-perturbative methods (e.g. lattice methods or functional methods), who will complement and extend our expertise with applications of particle physics in the field of astrophysics (e.g. compact objects, cosmic rays, dark matter, cosmology, or quantum gravity). The successful candidate is expected to regularly teach the full breadth of theoretical physics at all levels and supervise bachelor, master and PhD projects. This includes especially particle physics including specialized courses on current research for students within the master program and PhD program. Furthermore, the Theoretical Physics Group hosts the Doctoral Academy Consortium ‘Theoretical Particle Physics’, aimed at an excellent, structured PhD education. The successful candidate is expected to take an active role in this consortium. The University of Graz and the TU Graz coordinate their natural science activities in the strategic NAWI Graz cooperation. This will lead to a union of their physics institutes into a combined “Graz Center of Physics”. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to these efforts and collaborate with the participating groups. We also expect gender mainstreaming skills.

Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent
  • Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD)
  • Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Theoretical Physics
  • Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline and for the profile of the professorship (commensurate with stage of academic career)
  • Success in attracting subject‑specific project grants, particularly where competitively awarded third‑party funds are concerned
  • Skills in higher education didactics and online teaching
  • Skills in the supervision and guidance of early career researchers
  • Professional experience abroad during academic career
  • Management and leadership experience
  • Gender mainstreaming skills
  • Good knowledge of English and, after a period of at most three years, teaching in German
  • Excellent research record in non‑perturbative particle physics and documented expertise in application to astrophysics
  • International experience after completion of the Master’s degree (desirable)
