Job Description

The focus of this professorship and the teaching to be offered within its framework will be to provide students – on the basis of its normative foundations – with an understanding of the institutional structure of the European Union, the practical development of Union policies, the creation of EU legal acts, and, in particular, their implementation and application at both the Union and national Levels, along with related legal issues by way of selected issues as examples. The substantive emphasis should, however, rest be on the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) of the European Union and the EU’s external actions and relations, including the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). In the spirit of a continuous exchange between theory and practice, particular attention should be paid to the application of EU law in these areas of the CFSP and CSDP. This includes, among other things, the interplay interaction of institutions at both the national and the European Level, the legal assessment of Union EU initiatives, and the topic of questions concerning the representation of Member States representation before the European courts. This link to European law practice at national and European level is intended to stimulate, support and deepen research activities at the Department of European Law. In addition, the professor’s responsibilities will include teaching, assessment of examinations and supervision of diploma as well as doctoral theses.

Employment Requirements
  • Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD)
  • Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline as well as several years of subject-relevant non-university practical experience (commensurate with stage of academic career and interruptions in employment due to caring responsibilities)
  • Gender mainstreaming and diversity management skills
  • Skills in higher education didactics and online teaching
  • Networking with national and international experts from academia and practice
  • Many years of management and leadership experience
  • Good knowledge of German and English

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, aiming for academic excellence and integrity in research and teaching. He/she will have demonstrated ability to collaborate constructively in a responsible manner and inspire colleagues and students in an interdisciplinary, internationally oriented context.
