Principal Program Officer - PMO (Governance)

Drive governance excellence across a major infrastructure portfolio, shaping uplift initiatives and enabling confident executive decision-making.

About the role

A Principal Program Officer is required to join the Governance team within a large, fast‑moving Portfolio Management Office. This team supports significant transformation initiatives across portfolio management, financial management, asset management, contract management, and digital enablement.

You’ll play a key role in uplifting governance maturity across the division, ensuring consistency, transparency and high‑quality decision‑making. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys structured delivery, high‑level stakeholder engagement, strategic problem‑solving and producing polished governance artefacts that guide senior leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Apply and embed consistent portfolio and governance practices, ensuring alignment to agreed templates, processes and timeframes.
  • Prepare clear, accurate and timely reports, briefs and governance papers to support executive decision‑making.
  • Track actions, monitor progress across multiple governance forums, and manage sensitive matters requiring sound judgement and discretion.
  • Build productive working relationships with stakeholders, fostering service excellence and strengthening governance culture across the portfolio.
  • Identify emerging issues, analyse strategic impacts and provide practical, evidence‑based advice to senior managers.
  • Provide Secretariat support for governance committees, including agendas, papers, minutes, decisions and action tracking.
  • Ensure all artefacts are appropriately stored, versioned and managed within required document management systems.
