• 10+ years of engineering experience with production LLM/AI systems.
• Depth in at least two areas: permission-aware retrieval, evaluation methodology, model infrastructure, gateways, or data-platform.
• Production RAG experience: tuned and operated under real load.
• Experience building auth-aware or permission-aware data systems.
• Architectural authorship or ADRs that survived scrutiny.
• Solid production cloud experience; AWS with Bedrock preferred.
• On-call experience for production AI or data systems.
• Strong written communication and ability to produce ADRs/technical reviews.
• Hands-on coding fluency; English writing and speaking proficiency.

Overview

Join Eversports as our new Principal AI Engineer! In this role you will act as the senior technical voice of the AI team, owning architectural decisions where the AI Lead defers to you, and setting the technical bar for how AI applications get built, evaluated, and operated across the Eversports Group. You will work at the intersection of retrieval, permissioning, model infrastructure, and evaluation, while mentoring senior engineers and partnering closely with Data, Security, Legal, Compliance, and Platform Engineering.

Your Tasks

• Own architectural decisions in the categories the AI Lead defers on.
• Lead the design and build of permission enforcement at retrieval time.
• Design and operate the model gateway as platform-grade infrastructure.
• Establish evaluation methodology, benchmarks, and the "ready to ship" bar for AI applications.
• Mentor the other senior engineers and run technical reviews.
• Partner with the Data team's senior engineers on the semantic layer interface.
• Engage with Security, Legal, Compliance, and Platform Engineering as the AI team's senior technical voice.
• Contribute to hiring of subsequent engineers.
• Operate AI team-built components and carry on-call responsibility.

Your Profile

• 10+ years of engineering experience, with deep hands-on experience delivering production LLM/AI application systems (multiple systems shipped and operated), or a strong retrieval, evaluation, model-infrastructure, search, or data-platform background with a demonstrated transition to production LLM delivery.
• Demonstrated depth in at least two of the following: permission-aware retrieval over enterprise data, evaluation methodology for LLM applications, model infrastructure or gateways at production scale, agent or workflow infrastructure, knowledge-graph construction.
• Production RAG experience: tuned, evaluated, and operated under real load, not just an out-of-the-box setup.
• Experience building auth-aware or permission-aware data systems of meaningful complexity.
• Architectural authorship, ADRs or equivalent that have survived scrutiny.
• Solid production cloud experience is required. AWS with Bedrock is strongly preferred, as the group standardises on AWS, Snowflake, and dbt.
• On-call experience for production AI or data systems.
• Strong written communication, comfortable producing ADRs and technical reviews.
• Current, hands-on coding fluency.
• Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Experience as the senior technical counterpart to a peer Data or Platform team.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Snowflake, and dbt, or comparable infrastructure.
• Familiarity with the commercial state of the art in enterprise retrieval (Glean, Notion AI Enterprise, vector database platforms, evaluation tooling)
