Offer Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Liebscher Lab, where we investigate how neural circuit dysfunction drives CNS disorders, with a primary focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Our mission is to uncover the cellular, molecular, and network mechanisms underlying disease progression – and to translate these insights into therapeutic strategies. Our lab combines cutting-edge in vivo imaging, electrophysiology, and computational modeling with multiomics to bridge mechanistic understanding from the neuron to the brain-wide circuit level. You will work on high-resolution mapping of network changes during neurodegeneration and test interventions aimed at rescuing circuit dysfunction.

We are seeking an expert in neural circuit analysis with experience in:

  • Electrophysiology in behaving animals
  • Quantitative data analysis and computational modeling of network activity

This is a full-time position available from February 1st, 2026 with a competitive salary based on institutional guidelines initially for 4 years. The position includes responsibilities in research and academic service within the institute. In addition, there is an option to advance into a tenured group leader position, supporting the development of an independent scientific career.

Requirements

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or related field
  • Proven track record in relevant techniques for the position applied
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills

What We Offer

  • A dynamic, interdisciplinary, international and diverse research environment with state-of-the-art facilities at the Biocenter and the Medical University of Innsbruck
  • Opportunities to develop and lead independent research projects
  • Access to large, unique datasets and advanced experimental platforms
  • Support for career development, conference travel, and collaborations
  • equal opportunities for all: we offer a supportive atmosphere to grow professionally and are dedicated to diversity and equal opportunity, including increasing the representation of women in all areas.
