A leading medical research institution in Vienna is seeking a Post Doc Scientist to join their QIMP team. Position: Post Doc position

Institution: QIMP team, Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering

The Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering (CMPBME) at the Medical University of Vienna (MUV) invites applications for a PostDoc Scientist to join the Quantitative Imaging and Medical Physics (QIMP) Team.

We seek a highly motivated individual with expertise in hybrid PET / SPECT imaging technology, including data acquisition, correction, image reconstruction, and quantification. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the methodological foundations of nuclear medicine imaging (PET and/or SPECT), from nuclear physics to advanced data analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and support research projects in quantitative imaging (fully-quantitative PET imaging e.g., dynamic, non-FDG tracers and/or SPECT/CT e.g. for dosimetry).
  • Engage in clinical research using state-of-the-art total-body PET/CT imaging (Siemens Vision Quadra) and SPEC/CT systems.
  • Contribute to the overarching theme of “whole-person research”, e.g. employing dynamic, whole-body PET imaging to explore inter-organ communication.
  • Co-supervise PhD projects and pursue innovative research aligned with the team’s mission.
Position Details

The position offers access to cutting-edge imaging facilities, including whole-body PET/MRI, PET/CT, and SPECT/CT systems, alongside non-imaging data (e.g., genomics, IHC). You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across clinical and research departments. In particular, your position will be part of a close collaboration with the Division of Nuclear Medicine and their Data Science Core Lab.

This is a 2-year position (extendable!) starting in Q1/2026. The CMPBME fosters a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with over 50 staff members and numerous graduate students, dedicated to advancing medical imaging and therapy.

Qualifications
  • PhD in (medical) Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or alike.
  • Proven expertise in quantitative PET and/or SPECT imaging and image reconstruction.
  • Core understanding of kinetic modelling and parametric imaging.
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., C/C++, Python, MATLAB).
  • Strong communication skills, team spirit, and fluency in English.
  • Awareness of clinically applied research.
