A leading biomedical research institute in Vienna is seeking an NGS Technician to assist in the delivery of next-generation sequencing services. Responsibilities include executing sequencing assays and troubleshooting technical problems. The role requires strong wet-lab expertise, communication skills in English, and offers extensive benefits including full insurance coverage and a starting salary of EUR 39,000. This position includes a mix of onsite work and the opportunity for home office days.
The Biomedical Sequencing Facility is an academic core facility and technology platform for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), including single-cell methods and many other assays. It is based at the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, on the campus of the Medical University of Vienna.
We are seeking a motivated and capable laboratory technician whom we will train to perform a wide range of NGS assays (genome, transcriptome, epigenome, single-cell etc.) in cancer, immunity, genetic diseases & beyond.
The successful candidate will be part of the Biomedical Sequencing Facility (BSF) based at CeMM. The BSF is Austria's first and leading center of expertise for next‑generation sequencing in biomedicine. Under the scientific leadership of Christoph Bock and with a dedicated team of staff scientists, the BSF contributes to biomedical research and precision medicine in Vienna, Austria, and beyond. The BSF is equipped with latest technology for high‑throughput genomics and powerful scientific computing infrastructure. The BSF's mandate includes a strong focus on technology development, contribution to study design and bioinformatic data analysis, as well as training and teaching best practices in sequencing technology and genomic medicine. Furthermore, it supports biomedical scientists and clinicians in the development of custom NGS protocols and in the bioinformatic analysis of the resulting datasets.
CeMM is one of Europe's leading biomedical research institutes. It is located on the campus of the Medical University of Vienna and maintains close ties with the university. CeMM researchers publish important discoveries in top journals, which has included 15 papers in Nature / Cell / Science / NEJM and 50 papers in Nature / Science / Cell sister journals - with a team of 150 scientists. Research at CeMM is exceptionally collaborative and has strong focus on medical impact, based on a profound molecular understanding of diseases such as cancer and immune disorders. CeMM is part of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a founding member of EU‑LIFE. It is located at the center of one of the largest medical campuses in Europe, within walking distance of Vienna's historical city center. A study by "The Scientist" put CeMM among the top‑5 best places to work in academia worldwide. Vienna is frequently ranked the world's best city to live.
