Job purpose: This part-time National Project Coordinator role, based in Tirana, Albania, is crucial for the effective implementation of a GEF-funded project in the Albanian Alps. The purpose is to ensure timely achievement of project results by coordinating activities, managing partnerships, and facilitating communication between UNEP, the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, and other stakeholders. The role contributes to strengthening protected area management, enhancing resilience to climate change, and promoting sustainable development and biodiversity conservation within the Albanian Alps National Park, driving national and international interest in its values.
The National Project Coordinator will provide overall technical coordination for project components, ensuring alignment with the Project Document and UNEP/GEF requirements. Responsibilities include coordinating partner activities, monitoring work plans, budgets, and reporting. The role involves organizing coordination meetings, conducting due diligence for partners, and supervising national consultants. Key duties include monitoring progress against the results framework, managing risks, liaising with national and local institutions, and organizing stakeholder consultations and events. The coordinator will also ensure compliance with UNEP Social Safeguards, prepare progress and financial reports, support evaluations, and manage project documentation.
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in environmental studies, natural resource management, forestry, agriculture, or a related field is required. A Bachelor's degree with two additional years of relevant experience may substitute for an advanced degree. A PhD is considered an asset. Fluency in English and Albanian (oral and written) is mandatory.
A minimum of five years of experience in natural resource management, protected areas, and project implementation/management is required. Prior experience with UN/GEF projects and knowledge of UN/GEF procedures are desirable. Familiarity with sustainable development, including financial and institutional sustainability, is also desirable.
