Jobbeschreibung

Summary

We are looking for a hands‑on, design-minded technical specialist to help conceive, build and commission our microfactory - the automated production system at the core of our rebar processing and rebar cage assembly technology. This role goes beyond assembly and installation: you will collaborate directly with our engineering team and suppliers to sketch, concept and help define subsystems, then take ownership of turning those concepts into working, reliable hardware.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design instincts with a hands‑on, build‑it‑you‑self mindset — someone equally comfortable sketching a subsystem layout, discussing tolerances with a supplier, and standing on the shop floor putting it together.

About MESH

Mesh AG is transforming construction through automation. We develop and deliver advanced robotics solutions for automated reinforcement processing and rebar cage assembly. Our mission is to bring modern robotics and industrial‑grade automation to one of the most fragmented and under‑invested industries, enabling faster, safer, and more precise construction through systems that integrate seamlessly into existing workflows.

We design and deploy robotic solutions that operate in harsh, real‑world production environments - not labs or demos. Our work spans mechanical systems, robotics, software, and industrial automation, with a strong focus on robustness, simplicity, and deployability.

MESH is based in Switzerland, with in‑house workshops and robot testing facilities. We work closely with partners across the construction and machinery ecosystem and regularly test our systems in production and on‑site environments. We value close collaboration and hands‑on engineering and primarily work on‑site with our hardware.

Tasks

About the Role

As a Mechanical Design Technician, you will be a core member of our engineering and shopfloor team, working on the design and build of our microfactory - a new, first‑of‑its‑kind automated production system. You will help figure out how key subsystems should work, produce sketches and layout concepts, work with suppliers on design and sourcing questions, and then build and commission what you help design.

You will be involved throughout the entire lifecycle: from early concept sketches and subsystem definition, through detailed design support, to physical build, testing and deployment.

If you enjoy the full arc from "how should this work?" to "here it is, running" — and want to shape a production system from a blank sheet of paper rather than only execute someone else's finished drawings — this role is for you.

What You'll Be Working On

You will work closely with our engineering team to design, build and deploy the microfactory that underpins our production capacity.

Your work will include:

  • Collaborate with engineers to figure out how new subsystems of the microfactory should work, contributing sketches, layout ideas and mechanical concepts.

  • Work directly with suppliers on design questions, component selection and manufacturability - not just placing orders for known parts.

  • Translate concepts and partial designs into detailed CAD, drawings and bills of materials, in collaboration with engineering.

  • Assemble, build and install the resulting mechanical and mechatronic assemblies and subsystems.

  • Perform functional tests and factory acceptance testing.

  • Support commissioning and re‑commissioning of microfactory subsystems.

  • Carry out maintenance, repair and service work on installed systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and definition of new subsystems, including sketches, concept layouts and basic mechanical design work, in close collaboration with engineering.

  • Liaise directly with suppliers on design, sourcing and manufacturability of mechanical components and subsystems.

  • Build, assemble and install complex mechanical and mechatronic assemblies based on your own and the team's design work.

  • Diagnose technical issues, and document deviations, changes and improvement opportunities identified during design, assembly and commissioning.

  • Help ensure project targets for quality, safety and delivery schedules are met.

  • Specify and order mechanical components, standard parts and spare parts, with an eye toward design trade-offs, not just procurement logistics.

  • Contribute actively to continuous improvement, helping make our machines more robust, reliable and service-friendly.

Requirements

Background and Skills

  • Completed vocational apprenticeship or equivalent technical qualification as a Polymechanic, Mechatronics Technician, Plant or Systems Engineer, or in a comparable mechanical/manufacturing discipline.

  • Completed or ongoing further education as a Dipl. Technician HF in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or Systems Engineering — or a comparable advanced technical qualification — is strongly preferred.

  • Practical experience in mechanical design, assembly, commissioning or service within machinery, industrial equipment, robotics, special‑purpose machinery or automation.

  • Genuine interest and some experience in mechanical design work — sketching concepts, reasoning through subsystem trade‑offs, not only executing finished drawings.

  • Experience working in industrial environments. Exposure to robotics and industrial automation is an advantage.

  • Strong CAD skills, sufficient to develop concepts, produce basic design sketches and layouts, and detail straightforward subsystems — not only to read and adjust existing designs.

  • A structured, precise and independent working style, with strong problem‑solving skills and a hands‑on mindset.

  • Proficiency with industrial communication standards and PLC programming. Able to understand and modify a circuit or wiring diagram.

  • Comfortable working directly with suppliers on technical and design questions.

  • Comfortable using standard PC tools and digital documentation systems.

  • Working proficiency in English; good written and spoken German is a strong advantage.

  • Nice to have: valid driving licence, category B.

  • Team‑oriented, reliable and proactive, with a high willingness to learn.

  • Willingness to travel for planned customer installations and commissioning assignments in Switzerland and internationally, approximately 15%.
