Job purpose: The Statistical Technician will be instrumental in developing a comprehensive statistical framework and indicator system for monitoring illegal mining activities. This involves designing methodological frameworks, integrating and processing diverse datasets (statistical, spatial, demographic, socioeconomic), and performing spatial-statistical analyses to identify patterns and relationships. The role's purpose is to produce analytical products, including databases, reports, dashboards, and recommendations, that support UNODC's efforts in understanding and addressing the dynamics of illegal mining and its socioeconomic impacts.

Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include designing a conceptual and methodological framework for statistical monitoring of illegal mining, defining key analytical dimensions, variables, and indicators, and identifying data sources. The role involves compiling, cleaning, standardizing, and processing statistical and spatial information from various sources, including satellite imagery, census data, and administrative databases. Additionally, the technician will conduct descriptive and exploratory analyses to identify trends, patterns, and relationships associated with illegal mining, and develop analytical outputs such as dashboards, tables, graphs, and final reports with recommendations.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is mandatory. Knowledge of English is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Work experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in statistical analysis is required. Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, STATA) and GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) is desirable.
