Job summary

AT&S is seeking a Specialist CoE IT Server/Linux/Compute/Datacenter to join its IT team at the Leoben headquarters. You will administer and optimize large Linux infrastructures, patch production systems with minimal downtime, and troubleshoot complex issues in time‑critical environments.

The role emphasizes deep Linux internals, memory management, and collaboration with storage and network teams, with opportunities for automation improvement and documentation upkeep.

Qualifications

• Degree in IT, Computer Science, or Network Engineering.
• Proven experience in Linux system administration within enterprise environments.
• Deep understanding of Linux internals, including the boot process, systemd, services, and process management.
• Strong knowledge of memory management, OOM behavior, swap, and caching mechanisms.
• Extensive experience with OS and kernel patching in production and mission‑critical systems.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex Linux issues under time‑critical conditions.
• Strong shell scripting skills (Bash) for automation and operational tasks.
• Exposure to virtualization and container technologies such as VMware vSphere or Kubernetes is considered a plus.
• Familiarity with automation or monitoring tools (e.g., Ansible, CheckMK) is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot large‑scale Server & Linux environments (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
• Perform OS and kernel patching across production and non‑production systems with minimal downtime.
• Troubleshoot complex Linux issues, including boot failures, initramfs issues, filesystem corruption, OOM events, and performance degradation.
• Perform deep‑dive analysis of CPU, memory, disk I/O, and networking issues.
• Handle production incidents, perform RCA, and implement permanent fixes.
• Develop and maintain shell scripts for automation, health checks, and validations.
• Collaborate closely with application, storage, and network teams.
• Maintain documentation, runbooks, and patching procedures.
