Job summary

Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) is seeking an exceptional leader to establish and grow a new research unit in Graz or Linz. You will build a 10–20 person team, secure funding, and set the program in line with SAL’s strategy.

The role requires a track record of international leadership in electronic and software-based systems, strong communication, and the ability to collaborate with industry partners to drive research impact and economic value.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering or physics with demonstrated expertise.
• Proven leadership of international research teams and projects.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Minimum 10 years managing international projects and securing funding.
• Broad industrial and academic network demonstrated by collaborations and publications.
• Fluent in English; German is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Establish, lead, and advance a new research unit with 10–20 researchers.
• Acquire financial resources and manage resources for SAL’s research unit.
• Strategically plan, allocate resources, and align with organizational goals.
• Mentor and supervise researchers; foster collaboration across academia and industry.
• Expand the unit’s international network and shape research program portfolios.
• Drive research excellence and economic impact while creating a collaborative atmosphere.
• Oversee projects with industrial partners and pursue national/international funding.
