Institute of Science and Technology Austria invites applications for the ISTA-Fellow postdoctoral program. The two-year, fully funded fellowships target candidates who have completed or will complete their PhD in biology, neuroscience, physics, chemistry, computer science, data science, mathematics or related fields.

Salary starts at €73,500 gross per year with full social security coverage. The deadline is 8 September 2026, 14:00 CEST.

The call for applications for the ISTA-Fellow Postdoctoral Program is open!

Are you eager to perform cutting-edge research in an international environment? Do you want to push the frontiers of science and work with supervisors and colleagues that are among the best in the world?

The ISTA-Fellow program at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria offers fully funded (two-year) postdoctoral fellowships (10 positions) for highly qualified candidates who have completed or will soon complete their PhD or equivalent in chemistry, data and computer science, earth sciences, life sciences, mathematics, and physics.

The application deadline is September 8, 2026 (14:00 CEST)

Salary: ISTA-Fellows receive 2-year, full time employment contracts with an internationally competitive salary (min. 73,500 EUR gross) and full social security coverage.

Proposals are invited in the following fields: Biology; Neuroscience; Physics; Chemistry; Computer Science; Data Science; Mathematics; Earth Science; and related disciplines

Requirements:

All research groups at ISTA, except Astrophysics groups, are eligible (see https://ista.ac.at/en/research).

At the date of the respective call deadline, applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) or anticipate completing their PhD degree before the start of their fellowship (no later than 15/06/2027). A fellowship contract will not be issued until a copy of the diploma/proof of successful defense is provided.

Researchers already employed at ISTA before September 1, 2026 are not eligible to apply.
