Job summary

Die Oesterreichische Nationalbank sucht für die Monetary Policy Section eine Praktikumsstelle. Das Praktikum richtet sich an fortgeschrittene Masterstudierende oder Doktorand/innen und bietet Einblicke in geldpolitische Analysen, Berichte und Modelle.

Sie arbeiten an Analysen, Daten, Modellen in R und MATLAB, schreiben wissenschaftliche Arbeiten und bereiten Unterlagen für das Top-Management vor. Die Stelle ist Vollzeit oder Teilzeit (4–6 Monate), flexible Arbeitszeiten und Homeoffice möglich.

Qualifications

• Im laufenden Masterstudium oder Doktorand/in in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematik oder Finance
• Interesse an Geldpolitik und Inflation, idealerweise erste Erfahrungen im Bereich
• Kenntnisse in gängigen Softwarepaketen (R, MATLAB, Stata, Python) und MS-Office
• Erfahrung oder Interesse an der Arbeit mit komplexen Datensätzen
• Erfahrung mit macroeconomic Modellen (VAR oder DSGE) ist von Vorteil

Responsibilities

Job description

The tasks of the Monetary Policy Section (MP) are to provide policy advice to senior management and to conduct applied research. The former includes providing support in the form of monetary policy briefings for the meetings of the ECB Governing Council as well as various ad‑hoc requests on monetary and inflation related issues. On the basis of the latest findings in economic theory and its empirical methods, as well as our own research, we monitor, analyze and research monetary and inflation policy issues.

We offer interested students, preferably starting with 01.01.2027, a four- to six-month (employment level 50-100%)

Internship in the Monetary Policy Section

Full-time or part-time (Fixed term for 4-6 months)

Ihre Aufgaben

• Collaborate with staff on analysis, research, and modeling related to monetary policy and inflation
• Assist in the development and improvement of data analysis tools and macroeconomic models (multivariate time series models and DSGE) in R and MATLAB
• Support in writing scientific papers related to monetary policy and inflation, including data preparation, literature research, and visualization of results
• Assist in preparing briefing materials and ad hoc reports for the top management, as well as in preparing and processing data

Ihr Profil

• You are currently in the final stage of a Master's degree or are pursuing a PhD in one of the following fields: (Quantitative) Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or Finance
• You have a strong interest in monetary policy and inflation, ideally complemented by initial experience in the field of monetary economics and inflation
• You are proficient in relevant state-of-the-art software packages (R, MATLAB, Stata, Python, etc. - preferably R and RShiny) and are skilled in using MS-Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
• You have experience or an interest in empirical work that requires the handling of complex data sets (e.g., with publicly available data from Eurostat, ECB, etc.)
• Experience with macroeconomic models like VAR or DSGE models is an asset
• You are willing to collaborate with and support other team members in achieving common goals
• You have excellent presentation and communication skills
• You have strong English language skills (German is an asset but not required)
