Jobbeschreibung

To grow our R&D-Team in Austria with a preferred location in Vienna (optional Linz), we look for a Head of Software Development (m/f/d).

Responsibilities
Leadership & Direction
  • You will shape and adapt the software roadmap with product and business stakeholders, balancing changing priorities, technical constraints, and long-term sustainability.
  • You will lead the development team through hands-on technical leadership, mentoring, and clear expectations, helping engineers grow in ownership, quality, and responsibility.
  • You will establish an engineering culture that values pragmatism, quality, and continuous improvement – even when delivery pressure is high.
Technical Ownership
  • You will take responsibility for the overall software architecture of our safety-critical maritime systems, shaping architectural decisions together with the team.
  • You will keep our software stable and secure, ensuring performance, security, and compliance are treated as first-class concerns.
  • You will evolve CI/CD, test automation, and code quality standards with the team in a pragmatic, constraints-aware way.
Your profile and qualifications
What really matters
  • You bring solid experience in software development and have spent several years leading teams or technical initiatives in complex environments.
  • You are comfortable leading engineers through hands-on guidance, clear expectations, and technical credibility – also in a distributed or remote setup, where alignment is built through clear communication and occasional in-person collaboration.
  • You understand the challenges of maintaining and evolving software while delivering new features under pressure.
  • You are able to bring structure and clarity to environments where product direction and priorities are not always fully defined.
  • Experience with AI-based systems, computer vision, or the NVIDIA ecosystem.
  • Optional: Exposure to embedded systems, IoT, or software running close to hardware.
Technical background
  • You have strong experience in at least one major programming language used in our systems (e.g. Python, C++, Java) and you are able to navigate heterogeneous codebases.
  • You have experience with cloud platforms and web technologies and are comfortable contributing to or shaping emerging cloud initiatives.
How you work
  • You approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset and focus on making progress.
  • You communicate clearly and directly, especially when technical trade-offs need to be explained.
  • You work independently, take ownership and move things forward.
  • You combine a strategic view with a strong bias for execution.
What we offer
  • A collaborative and results-oriented international culture.
  • Flexible working hours and locations, including remote working options.
  • Company organized team building events including workshops, remote working in Europe, sailing trips and more.
  • Minimum salary for this job is EUR 85.000,00 gross per year – according to your experience and education we are willing to pay more.
