Full Professor of Structural Engineering

BOKU University seeks to appoint a Full Professor of Structural Engineering with a start date of 1 October 2027. The position follows §98 of the 2002 Universities Act and is offered as an ongoing contract.

BOKU is the University of Sustainability and Life Sciences, with more than 10,000 students and over 3,000 staff. The Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure (LAWI) focuses on interdisciplinary and sustainable research and teaching, especially in resilient living environments and responsible resource use.

The Institute of Structural Engineering focuses on structural detailing and the practical implementation of sustainable infrastructure structures, such as bridges, tunnels, protective structures, shells, and containment structures, incorporating digital planning processes, artificial intelligence, and resource‑efficient, circular construction materials and methods.

The successful candidate will lead the design, modelling, and cross‑material structural design of engineering structures using innovative, conventional and recycled construction materials, and circular‑compatible connection and fastening systems.

Responsibilities include:

• Innovative development of new infrastructure solutions and sustainable upgrading and further development of existing structures.
• Integration of structural design with cross‑material system solutions for infrastructure with long service lives.
• Teaching theoretical and practical, subject‑specific courses in German and English.
• Supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses and dissertations.
• Involvement in public relations and third mission activities, participation in focus and cooperation programs, and active engagement in university self‑administration.

Job specifications (Qualifications and Experience):

• Venia docendi or international equivalent, or an academic qualification equivalent to habilitation.
• Relevant, established international research experience, national and international reputation, networking skills, and solid practical experience.
• Excellent publication record in the field, experience in acquiring, implementing and managing research projects.
• Experience in teaching courses in German and English, supervising junior scientists (PhD students), and collaborating with national and international research institutions and partners from public administration and industry.
• Management and leadership skills, including gender and diversity management, inclusiveness and accessibility communication, teamwork and communication skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English; good German skills or willingness to learn German within the first two years.
