The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment’s Water Resource Division oversees the administration of the Northern Territory Water Act 1992. This legislation guides the investigation, allocation, use, control, protection, and management of the Territory’s water resources.
In the role of Executive Director Water Resources, you provide strategic leadership and guidance to the Division. Your responsibilities include developing, reviewing, and implementing government objectives, policies, and regulatory directives to ensure the sustainable utilisation of the Territory’s water resources.
Key duties entail offering strategic advice to the Chief Executive Officer and Minister, spearheading the creation and execution of new legislation and policies, and fostering collaborative relationships with government entities and stakeholders. Your role on the department’s Governance Board contributes to shaping the department's strategic direction and fostering a culture of shared commitment to its vision and goals.
To excel in this position, you must demonstrate expertise in water resource management and legislation, possess strong strategic leadership skills, and have the ability to enhance the performance of a diverse professional staff and senior management teams. Essential skills include strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and political and policy acumen.
