Job summary

LSU VetMed - Veterinary Teaching Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician 1, 2, or 3 for the SA-ER/SA-ICU teams. The role involves continuous emergency and intensive nursing support, patient triage, stabilization, and post-surgical care. The position supports teaching and clinical service missions.

Minimum qualifications include a degree (Bachelor’s or Associate’s) and active RVT licensure with the Louisiana Board. Preferred applicants have one year of related experience and active licensure.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree; OR associate’s degree in veterinary technology AND must be actively licensed with the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Registered Veterinary Technician.
• Preferred qualifications: Actively licensed with the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Registered Veterinary Technician and one year of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with advanced veterinary nursing care for emergency, critically ill, and hospitalized patients, including triage, assessment, stabilization, and ongoing intensive care.
• Assist with emergency patient admissions, assessment, stabilization, and transfer to specialty services or ICU as appropriate.
• Operate and maintain emergency, intensive care, and diagnostic equipment to ensure readiness; assist with diagnostic samples.
• Maintain patient census records and accurate entry of charges and hospitalization fees.
• Provide holiday, overnight, weekend, and emergency coverage as assigned.
• Promote continuity of patient care through effective communication with veterinarians and staff.
• Support the teaching hospital's educational mission by mentoring and training students and new staff.
