About the role…

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director Corporate & Community Services provides strategic and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio including Finance, People & Culture, Information Technology, and Economic Development. The role ensures strong financial governance, exceptional service delivery, and the effective implementation of Council's Strategic Management Plans, Long Term Financial Plan, and Annual Business Plan & Budget.

As a key member of the Corporate Management Team, you will provide trusted advice to the CEO, Mayor and Elected Members, champion business improvement and organisational culture, and build collaboration across Council to achieve community and corporate goals. This is a pivotal executive leadership opportunity for a results‑driven, community‑focused professional who thrives on delivering tangible outcomes in a complex and rewarding environment.

What you will do…

  • Provide strategic leadership across Corporate and Community Services, ensuring effective financial, people, and operational management
  • Oversee long‑term financial planning, annual budgeting, and statutory financial reporting
  • Lead the People, Culture and Safety function to foster a positive and high‑performing workplace
  • Drive digital transformation and technology innovation to support organisational efficiency
  • Oversee economic development, tourism, and business sustainability initiatives
  • Ensure legislative compliance and strong governance across all business areas
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Council's Strategic Management and Long‑Term Financial Plans
  • Support the CEO, Mayor and Elected Members through informed, strategic advice and reporting
  • Represent Council in negotiations with community, government and industry stakeholders
  • Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional service outcomes

What we're looking for…

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business, Commerce or a related discipline
  • Significant senior management experience within a complex corporate or government environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Local Government Act 1999 and relevant financial and governance frameworks
  • Proven leadership capability with the ability to inspire, influence and empower others
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking, with excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Demonstrated success in driving organisational improvement and cultural change
  • Experience developing and managing multi‑million dollar budgets and strategic financial plans

Local Government experience will be highly regarded, as will a demonstrated passion for community‑focused leadership and regional development.
