Organizational Setting

The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing indigenous capabilities around the world for national energy planning; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.

The department has a dynamic, participative and interactive operating environment with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community.

The Division of Nuclear Power comprises the Nuclear Power Engineering Section (NPES), the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section (NIDS), the International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO) and the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section (NPTDS). The Division provides core engineering, technological, capacity building and management support to interested Member States in the field of nuclear power.

The Nuclear Power Engineering Section (NPES) assists interested Member States in the development of the safe and effective operation of nuclear power plants and in the expansion of existing nuclear programmes. It provides guidance and encourages information exchange on engineering aspects of design, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, decommissioning; project management and management systems; supply chain and quality management, hand performance improvement; expansion planning and strategies.

Main Purpose

The consultant provides technical expertise to the PRIS Team and assists in coordination of the country nuclear power profiles (CNPP). This includes maintaining the CNPP website and database, preparing the CNPP annual publication, communicating with authors and contributors from Member States, etc. Additionally, he/she will validate, and compile information related to nuclear power program development in the Member States.

Functions / Key Results Expected
  • Collect and revise the CNPP reports for language and internationally accepted standards and review them in close accordance with the structure and requirements guide.
  • Review CNPP reports to include relevant information from other databases, such as PRIS.
  • Prepare the CNPP annual publication and the PRIS/CNPP integration activities.
  • Provide CNPP trainings requested by member states.
  • Monitor nuclear power industry news and prepare monthly/quarterly country summary reports and draft country briefs.
  • Organize CNPP consultancy and technical meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
  • University degree in public policy, economics, physics, nuclear engineering or in a related discipline.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with nuclear technology and associated engineering terminology.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary team collaboratively.
  • Strong English writing skills.
  • Good understanding of geopolitical definitions.
  • Experience working with HTML.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office (including VBA coding).
  • Experience programming Macros in Microsoft Excel and Access would be an asset.
Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 250, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
