Jobbeschreibung

Our users compare mobile phone plans, internet, and energy — we, on the other hand, are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (PHP / Laravel) who will play a key role in shaping the technical development of our comparison platform and take on responsibility.

About Us

We are tarife.at, one of Austria’s leading online comparison portals for telecommunications and energy. More than 350,000 users per month rely on our expertise when it comes to mobile services, internet, electricity, or gas.

Our mission: transparency, fairness, and simplicity in the jungle of tariffs.

tarife.at is a wholly owned subsidiary of Geizhals.at.

To continue our growth path and further develop our platform technically, we are looking to strengthen our team at a senior level.

Your Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you are a central technical point of contact at tarife.at. You share responsibility for architectural decisions, develop new backend features, and contribute your expertise to infrastructure and DevOps topics.

You think in a product- and business-oriented way, work closely with management and frontend teams, and have real influence on technical and content-related decisions.

Your Responsibilities
  • Co-developing the system architecture as well as designing, planning, and implementing new features (in collaboration with UX and frontend teams)
  • Developing and maintaining backend services with Laravel / PHP
  • Technical support and maintenance of our CRM
  • Further development and administration of our (AWS) infrastructure
  • Contributing to product decisions and prioritization
  • Modern Laravel 12 codebase following API-first principles (PHP 8.4)
  • Modern React v19 codebase (Tailwind, Vite.js)
  • JetBrains tools (PhpStorm, YouTrack, TeamCity)
Must-Haves
  • Several years of experience in software development with PHP, ideally with Laravel or Symfony
  • Excellent understanding of software architecture, scalability, and performance
  • Experience with REST APIs and modern web technologies
  • Analytical, structured way of working and enjoyment of holistic thinking
  • Interest in product development and business contexts
Nice to Have
  • Solid knowledge of DevOps / cloud technologies (AWS, Docker, etc.)
  • Basic frontend knowledge (React, Tailwind, etc.)
What This Means for You
  • You enjoy independently and responsibly familiarizing yourself with new, especially technical, challenges
  • You act as an interface between management, frontend, and service teams
  • You enjoy learning everything about mobile tariffs, internet connections, and the energy industry
  • Your goal is to satisfy both our customers and visitors
  • You strive for continuous improvement and want to optimize everything, all the time
Our Offer
  • Flat hierarchy. Our core team consists of 7 people — small but mighty!
  • A wonderfully friendly family: As part of the Geizhals.at family, we are located in a brand-new office at the Austria Campus near Praterstern. Foosball table, espresso machine, bike room, 80+ colleagues from Geizhals.at — everything you need!
  • Lunch is on us! Freshly cooked daily catering of your choice, delivered free to the office. Cold drinks, coffee, tea, fruit, etc. are of course also provided.
  • Flexible working hours, with the option of up to 2 days of home office per week.
  • Top-notch equipment: your own height-adjustable desk, ergonomic chair, powerful notebook, multiple monitors, and more.
  • Collective agreement with 38.5 working hours per week at full pay
  • Annual gross salary starting at EUR 60,000. Depending on your experience and qualifications, we are happy to offer overpayment.
