About Your Role

As an Avionics Development Engineer at GATE Space, you will be responsible for avionics design and testing, focusing on hardware design and verification. You’ll play a key role in the design of electrical circuits and PCBs, including component selection and cooperation with suppliers, while applying your hardware test expertise to plan and conduct verification test campaigns.

This hands-on role requires relevant work experience and offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge propulsion development in a fast-paced environment, supporting the whole development lifecycle.

Your Primary Tasks
  • Development, design and analysis of avionics flight hardware
  • Development, design and analysis of electrical ground support equipment hardware
  • Take ownership of trade-offs and selection of electrical hardware components
  • Plan and support qualification test campaigns of avionics hardware
  • Apply internal standards in accordance with industry standards
  • Hands-on work on breadboarding and prototyping of novel PCB designs
  • Cooperate with the propulsion development team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering or a related field, or self-taught.
  • Industry experience of at least four (4) years in as many of the following areas:
    • Experience in design and analysis of electrical circuits and PCB layouts.
    • Experience with ECAD tools (e.g. KiCAD).
    • Experience in change management and issue tracking.
    • Hands on experience with wire harness manufacturing (e.g. crimping, soldering, …).
    • Experience in assembly, bring up and debugging of PCBs.
    • Experience in hardware testing.
    • Experience in hardware-in-the-loop testing.
    • Work experience in the aerospace, medical or other safety critical applications
    • [Optional but desired] Experience in software/firmware development.
    • [Optional but desired] Experience in FPGA development.
    • [Optional but desired] Experience in developing space hardware up to TRL 7.
    • [Optional but desired] Familiarity with industry regulations and standards for space applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of spacecraft propulsion, navigation, and control systems.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving priorities.
About Your Employment

We are looking for a full-time employee, starting as soon as possible. This role is in-person in Vienna, Austria with occasional travel to customers all across Europe & the US as well as conferences and industry events globally.
