Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

The Analytical Development Biochemistry group, located in Basel, is an integral component of how we innovate healthcare through the invention of differentiated medicines for treating diseases of current unmet medical need. This internship program integrates seamlessly into European-based University degree program and therefore we offer the most talented students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with us.

The Opportunity

As an Analytical Development Intern in Analytical Sciences with a focus on LC‑MS, you will actively contribute to analytical project work from the very beginning. You will support the characterization, quantification, and stability assessment of drug products and related samples using state‑of‑the‑art mass spectrometry‑based analytical methods.

Your responsibilities and learning opportunities include:

  • Plan and perform analytical studies (e.g., peptide mapping) to support the development and characterization of pharmaceutical drug products, with a particular focus on LC‑MS‑based methods.
  • Support the development, optimization, and application of liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of drug products.
  • Carry out physico-chemical analyses of development and non-manufacturing-grade samples using modern analytical techniques, including LC‑MS, HPLC/UPLC, and complementary chromatographic methods.
  • Assist in sample preparation (e.g., enzymatic digests) and the optimisation/troubleshooting of LC‑MS instruments and data processing workflows.
  • Ensure the integrity of data and take full ownership of comprehensive documentation for all analytical studies in compliance with internal quality standards (ALCOA+ principles).
  • Collaborate with experienced scientists and cross‑functional project teams to support analytical strategies for the development of parenteral drug products.
  • Apply analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills to improve experimental workflows, optimise methods, and support efficient laboratory processes.
  • Gain hands‑on experience in a modern analytical laboratory environment and develop a deeper understanding of mass spectrometry‑based analytics in pharmaceutical development.
  • Be part of a team committed to innovation, collaboration, and developing patient‑centric solutions that make a meaningful impact in healthcare.
Who You Are
