We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AMLO / Sanctions Officer to lead our compliance efforts as we seek MiCA authorization. As a prospective CASP, we are dedicated to establishing a premier regulated environment for digital asset trading. The successful candidate will design, implement, and maintain the AML/KYC framework, ensuring readiness for regulatory authorisation (MiCA) and ongoing compliance with EU and Austrian regulatory frameworks.
Position Overview
In this role, the AntiMoney Laundering Officer (AMLO) and Sanctions Officer (jointly referred to as the AMLO for ease of reading) holds overall responsibility for the development, rollout, and ongoing supervision of BloFin EU’s AML/CFT and sanctions arrangements within the European Union. The position includes active involvement in the MiCA authorization process and entails acting as BloFin EU’s designated liaison with the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), ensuring that all applicable AML/CFT requirements are effectively addressed and complied with. This role reports directly to senior management and will interact with national competent authorities and financial intelligence units.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the central contact for all AML/CFT and sanctions-related topics, both internally and externally, including communication with the competent supervisory authority (FMA).
- Drive the design, maintenance, and rollout of internal policies, procedures, frameworks, and guidelines to ensure adherence to Austrian and EU regulatory requirements.
- Manage and further develop the AML/CFT framework, including customer due diligence, onboarding, and KYC processes - such as responsibility for decisions on the acceptance or refusal of business relationships in line with applicable rules.
- Take ownership of establishing and embedding appropriate internal control mechanisms required for the MiCA authorization process, ensuring consistency with governance structures and operational processes.
- Track and assess regulatory developments at national and EU level and advise the business on their implications for ongoing operations and strategic initiatives.
- Regularly assess the effectiveness of implemented policies, control frameworks, and compliance systems and initiate improvements where necessary.
- Perform companywide AML/CFT risk assessments in accordance with Article 4 FMGwG.
- Prepare and deliver recurring, ad-hoc, and event-driven reports to management and external stakeholders, including supervisory authorities.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g. compliance, finance, operations) to resolve compliance matters while supporting business objectives.
- Proactively monitor market and industry developments to identify emerging compliance and financial crime risks at an early stage.
- Deliver AML/CFT and sanctions-related training to relevant business and control functions to ensure appropriate awareness and expertise across the organization.
- Provide AML/CFT input for the development of new products, services, markets, and operational workflows by conducting targeted risk assessments.
- Oversee transaction monitoring activities, investigations, alert handling, and escalation processes relating to potential money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions risks.
- Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting, including suspicious activity reporting (SAR/SST) in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1113, and maintain ongoing cooperation with competent authorities.
- Report directly to senior management on AML/CFT programme performance, regulatory development and material issues.
- Develop and deliver AML/CFT training programme for all relevant staff.
Qualification
- University degree in law, economics, finance, forensics, or a comparable discipline; candidates with a legal background are particularly welcome.
- At least five years of professional experience in compliance functions within financial institutions, banks, or fintech companies. Experience in the crypto sector is an advantage but not mandatory. Prior exposure to supervisory interactions is highly desirable.
- Solid knowledge of blockchain technology, digital assets, and the regulatory framework applicable to cryptocurrencies.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the capability to build and lead teams.
- Excellent written and spoken English skills; German language proficiency is strongly preferred.
