GoFundMe is hiring a Manager, Data Engineering to lead a data engineering team within our Data Platform organization. You’ll translate business priorities into a clear roadmap, manage backlogs, and deliver predictable outcomes while partnering with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Privacy, and business teams.

Formación

  • 8–10+ years in data engineering or platform engineering.
  • 5+ years directly managing data engineers or platform teams.
  • Proven track record delivering predictable delivery and ownership.
  • Strong relationships with product, engineering, analytics, data science, privacy, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience hiring, coaching, and retaining high-performing teams.

Join us! The GoFundMe team is searching for our next Manager, Data Engineering to lead a data engineering team and own delivery for a critical portfolio within our Data Platform organization. This role is accountable for translating business priorities into a clear roadmap and well-managed backlog, establishing owners and deadlines, and delivering measurable outcomes predictably. You will build strong relationships across Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Privacy, and business teams; proactively manage risks and dependencies; make clear trade-off decisions; and hold the team accountable for commitments. You will also hire, coach, and develop engineers while partnering with Staff+ engineers and architects on technical direction. Success will be measured by business value, dependable execution, team health, and a secure, scalable data platform that supports reporting, analytics, AI/ML, and product use cases.

This is a hybrid position. Candidates considered for this role will be located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Job

  • Partner Cross-Functionally: Build strong relationships across Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Privacy, and business teams to translate business needs into clear priorities and execution plans.
  • Own the Roadmap, Backlog & Outcomes: Partner with data product management to build the team’s roadmap and backlog, connecting priorities to measurable business outcomes and tangible value.
  • Drive Delivery & Accountability: Set clear owners, milestones, and deadlines; hold the team accountable for commitments; and communicate progress and decisions transparently.
  • Lead, Grow & Manage Performance: Hire, coach, and develop a high-performing team through regular feedback, 1:1s, performance management, and meaningful career development.
  • Manage Risks & Dependencies: Proactively identify and resolve delivery risks, cross-team dependencies, resource constraints, and blockers before they affect outcomes.
  • Make Prioritization & Trade-Off Decisions: Partner with data product management to balance business value, urgency, platform health, risk, and team capacity; make tough trade-offs and clearly explain the rationale.
  • Establish an Effective Operating Rhythm: Define goals and success measures, maintain a healthy backlog, review delivery and operational metrics, and continuously improve how the team works.
  • Deliver Dependable Data Products: Ensure the team delivers trusted, reusable, and well-governed data products that support reporting, analytics, AI/ML, and product experiences.
  • Ensure Quality, Governance & Reliability: Set expectations for data quality, privacy, security, lineage, documentation, operational readiness, and sustainable support.
  • Partner on Technical Direction: Work with Staff+ engineers and architects to align technical decisions with business priorities, delivery constraints, and long-term platform strategy.
  • Manage Platform Health & Investment: Balance new delivery with reliability, scalability, cost effectiveness, technical debt, and the investments needed to keep the platform dependable.
  • Improve Team Efficiency with AI: Champion responsible use of AI tools and agents to improve planning, development, documentation, operations, and team productivity.

You

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build trust, align diverse stakeholders, navigate conflict, and communicate priorities, trade-offs, and outcomes clearly.
  • 8–10+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or related fields, including at least 5+ years directly managing data engineers or platform teams.
  • Track record of driving predictable delivery, establishing clear ownership and deadlines, and holding teams accountable for commitments.
  • Demonstrated success building strong relationships with product, engineering, analytics, data science, privacy, and business stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of hiring, coaching, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong judgment in prioritization, resource allocation, risk management, dependency management, and making difficult trade-off decisions.
  • Strong data engineering experience and hands‑on technical leadership across data architecture, modeling, ETL/ELT, batch and streaming pipelines, orchestration, and scalable distributed systems.
  • Ability to guide design and delivery using SQL, Python, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake or BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD—stepping in when needed to review designs, troubleshoot issues, and unblock the team.
  • Working knowledge of data governance, quality, privacy, security, lineage, compliance, reliability, and cost management.
  • Experience using goals, delivery and operational metrics, and continuous‑improvement practices to improve execution; familiarity with responsible use of AI tools in engineering teams.
