Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Lead Python Engineer to own end-to-end delivery of an AI-powered financial assistant platform. You will lead backend design, API development, and LLM-driven workflows in a fast-paced, low-structure environment.

You will mentor senior engineers, drive high-quality code, integrate AI features with strong safeguards, and collaborate with product stakeholders to refine requirements and ship iterative improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with Python.
• Strong leadership and mentoring experience in senior teams.
• Proven system design experience for production backend services and APIs.
• Deep FastAPI experience or equivalent Python web framework experience.
• Hands-on with AI-DLC and Gen AI workflows; strong LLM application knowledge.
• Experience with AI evaluation, regression testing, and quality engineering.
• Security-oriented with privacy, access control, and guardrails awareness.
• Ability to work with vague requirements and deliver with autonomy.
• Excellent product judgment for reliability and maintainability.
• Advanced English proficiency (C1).

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of backend services for an AI-powered financial assistant.
• Define system architecture balancing quality, latency, reliability, and cost for AI features.
• Build production-grade APIs with Python and FastAPI; emphasize testing and observability.
• Implement LLM-powered workflows with safeguards and validation.
• Establish automated AI evaluations, test datasets, and monitoring for model behavior.
• Harden applications with security controls for sensitive data and access management.
• Collaborate with product and business users to refine requirements and iterate.
• Drive code quality through reviews and engineering standards.
• Integrate AI-assisted coding while validating generated code.
• Troubleshoot production issues with disciplined incident response and root-cause analysis.
• Guide technical decisions in a low-process environment while keeping momentum.
