Job summary

Ascend is seeking a Senior Python Backend Developer to join a fully remote engineering team. You will design, implement, and scale backend services using Django and FastAPI, with PostgreSQL as the data backbone.

You will collaborate with product and frontend teams, optimize APIs, and apply AI-assisted coding tools to improve efficiency while upholding security and testing standards. This role offers real ownership, modern tech, and a chance to influence a growing travel tech platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend Python experience.
• Strong production experience with Django and/or FastAPI.
• Professional experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production APIs.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot.
• Solid understanding of Git, CI/CD, testing, and backend development best practices.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively within a remote engineering team.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with both Django and FastAPI.
• Knowledge of AWS, Railway, Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud architecture.
• Experience with microservices, asynchronous processing, and event-driven systems.
• Familiarity with SQLAlchemy, API scalability, and performance optimization.
• Experience building AI agents, reusable prompts, internal AI tools, or automated development workflows.
• Background in SaaS, travel technology, or complex backend systems.
