Qualifications

Job description
The Veterinarian is responsible in providing comprehensive veterinary care to the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi (SWAD) animal population (mammals, fish, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates) as well as providing support for the affiliated regional marine life rescue and rehabilitation program. This role is integral to the maintenance of SeaWorld’s high animal welfare standards and to the advancement of the field and science of marine animal health. This role assists and participates in the management of the animal welfare program and play an active role in research opportunities at SWAD. Assistance with managing labor and expense budgets for the Animal Care Center is also required. Responsible for developing a high performing and motivated Animal Health team.
The job scope includes :
  • Responsible for the maintenance and management of all aspects of collection animal health for SeaWorld Abu Dhabi including diagnosis, treatment of disease, preventative medicine programs, the animal welfare program, nutrition
  • As part of various programs, oversees medical care of rescued wildlife including but not limited to dugongs, birds, sea turtles, and cetaceans
  • Shares responsibility for the management of Animal Rescue Program with the Zoological Directors
  • Consults and educates the Zoological colleagues, leadership teams and occasionally the public in areas of health, welfare, and husbandry
  • Conducts animal health research projects and prepares the results for presentations and peer-reviewed publications
  • Ensures any noncompliance and safety related incidents are promptly investigated and corrective action taken as needed
  • Assists in the field for rescues, health assessments and possible field research with various species
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the leadership team
To be considered for the role, you will need to have :
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree
  • Ability to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the UAE
  • 5 years of proven experience in a zoo, aquarium, or oceanarium organization. This may include post-doctoral training or a minimum of two years of full-time practical experience
  • Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge with operating and utilizing Computed Tomography (CT) / Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) imaging modalities and associated viewing programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge with professional zoo / aquarium and animal conservation communities
