Istituto Marangoni Dubai is seeking a part-time tutor to join the education team for the Foundation in Fashion & Design programme. You will teach Global Culture & Contextual Studies, helping early-stage students develop cultural literacy and critical thinking.

The role connects cultural theory to fashion and brand communication, exploring cultural appropriation, representation, inclusivity, and diversity with interactive workshops and alignment to CAA standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cultural Studies, Communication, Media or related field.
• Demonstrated engagement with creative/cultural industries is preferred.
• Ability to bridge cultural theory with fashion and brand communication.
• Experience teaching or tutoring foundation-level cohorts in English.

Job summary

The purpose of this part-time position is to join Istituto Marangoni Dubais education team teaching Global Culture & Contextual Studies within the Foundation in Fashion & Design programme.

The role focuses on developing early-stage students cultural literacy and critical thinking enabling them to analyse cultural phenomena understand how brands and creators communicate around social issues and produce culturally-informed ethically-grounded creative responses such as campaigns and visual narratives.

The tutor will deliver high-quality workshop-led teaching aligned with professional practice and CAA standards and contribute to the academic and creative culture of the school through interactive lectures critiques and project mentoring with sensitivity to the UAEs multicultural context.

Key purpose of the job

• Cultural studies visual culture and the critical analysis of contemporary culture
• How brands and organizations communicate around social issues (brand activism purpose-driven campaigns)
• A critical interest in and ability to build teaching projects or discussion around cultural appropriation representation inclusivity and diversity in the creative industries
• Analysis of campaigns and message construction how social and cultural messages are built and communicated across fashion design art film and media
• Cultural context heritage and globalisation as they relate to fashion design and the wider creative and cultural fields
• Facilitation of group work workshops and oral presentation-based assessment

Teaching Activities

• Plan and deliver lessons through a clear engaging student-centred and workshop-led approach aligned with CAA standards and Istituto Marangoni methodology.
• Prepare and update teaching materials briefs and course documentation as required.
• Connect cultural and contextual theory to concrete fashion and design examples ensuring relevance to students creative practice.
• Facilitate group projects class workshops and oral presentations as the core mode of assessment.
• Provide formative and summative assessments with constructive feedback ensuring transparency and academic integrity.
• Contribute to programme development through collaboration with the Programme Coordinator and Director of Education.

Students Academic Support

• Guide students in building critical analytical and communication skills across cultural and social topics.
• Support students development through mentorship critique sessions and project guidance.
• Monitor and assess student progress providing regular transparent feedback.
• Foster critical thinking respectful debate teamwork and professional conduct.
• Deliver sensitive and potentially contested cultural topics with tact balance and awareness of a diverse multicultural cohort.

Industry & Contextual Relevance

• Connect classroom learning to real-world cultural social and industry developments.
• Draw on current examples of brand activism campaigns and cultural movements in the creative industries.
• Collaborate with external professionals cultural institutions or events when relevant to enrich student experience.

Educational and Professional Requirements

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Cultural Studies Communication Media Sociology International/Cultural Studies Art History or a related discipline with a critical-cultural orientation.
• Demonstrable engagement with the creative and/or cultural industries professional practice as a curator communicator cultural producer or equivalent is strongly preferred.
• Ability to bridge cultural theory with fashion design and brand communication.
• Teaching tutoring or facilitation experience with young or foundation-level cohorts (1719) including the ability to make theoretical content accessible across mixed English and maturity levels is preferred.
• A clear student-centred pedagogical approach able to engage early-stage learners through interactive workshop-led delivery rather than lecture alone is preferred.
• Education Qualification Equivalency from the Ministry of Education in the UAE (or willingness to obtain).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills strong facilitation ability and cultural sensitivity.
• UAE residency preferred.
